About Colin 'Beaverman' Almack

Colin 'Beaverman' Almack (Ex-Mouseman): A Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson craftsman in the 1940s, who went on to found his own workshop in the nearby village of Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe in 1960. Known for high quality furniture in oak in the Yorkshire school tradition

About English Oak

English Oak: The most British of woods, that can produce really special results. English oak has been used for hundreds of years to construct everything from sea-going vessels to fine furniture. Although oak grows widely across Europe and North America, craftsmen continue to cherish English oak which grows more slowly than its foreign counterparts giving it strength, durability. Quarter sawn boards are very straight grained and have distinctive growth rings and medullary rays that give a very beautiful effect as well as being renowned for their superior stability and strength

About Arts & Crafts Yorkshire School

The Yorkshire School of the Arts & Crafts movement started with Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson's  transformation from jobbing carpenter to master craftsmen. By the mid-1920s he had adopted his trademark mouse (now world renowned as a symbol of quality furniture) and had his own workshop busily employing several men. As the workshop grew and over the years many of the craftsmen have taken their skills and branched out and adopted a trademark of their own, a fox, a lizard, a fish, a rabbit to name but a few, and whilst some have closely stuck to the Mouseman designs others have taken the style and adapted it. Other craftsmen, unconnected to the Mouseman workshop, have also chosen the classic Yorkshire Oak style as their own. Typical Yorkshire school items are in English Oak, with traditional pegged joints and adzed surfaces

Delivery

We are happy to arrange delivery for you which can be added at checkout, or you can collect items in person.

Delivery typically takes about 2 weeks, but may take up to 4 weeks (and occasionally longer if you live somewhere very far flung), and is a 'one man' service so assistance may be required at your end.

It will be by a specialist courier that will handle you item with great care and contact you in advance of arrival to agree a suitable day and time. They will also be as helpful as they can with times and dates, but will have multiple deliveries and collections to schedule into a practical route and timetable, so please bear that in mind. Please contact us for faster delivery options or a two man service.

You are also welcome to collect or make your own arrangements for collection via a carrier such as Mailboxes, Alban Shipping or Silversprint, if you prefer, but we would not then provide a packing service for the items.

We can also arrange international deliveries. Please contact us for a quote.  Please note that for international orders, you will be responsible for any import taxes, duties or charges and these are not included in our pricing.

Returns

We aim to be as accurate and honest as possible with our descriptions so that you know exactly what you are buying and ensure there are no nasty surprises. There is of course a subjective element to describing the condition of items, so if something is not as clear as it should, be please ask for clarification. It's not normally possible or desirable to restore items to perfect as new condition, so unless otherwise stated you should expect items to have some character - small amounts of age related wear and tear, such as light scratches, tiny chips/dings, minor marks and slight colour variations. These won't detract from the overall appearance and are generally only noticeable on close inspection.

If you are not completely satisfied with your item, you have the right to cancel the contract for a purchase within a period of 30 working days, beginning with the day after the day on which the item is delivered. To return an item, please contact us to let us know you wish to return it, then arrange its return so that we receive it within 30 working days after the day of the date that the item was delivered to you. You can usually use the same courier that delivered the items to you. Please note that you will be responsible for the costs of returning the goods to us unless we delivered the item to you in error, we have made a significant error describing the item or the item was damaged during the outbound delivery. If we do not receive the item back from you, we may arrange for collection of the item at your cost. We regret that we cannot accept returns of any items that are not in the condition we sent them, unless the damage was caused during outbound delivery. As soon as we receive the returned item, we will refund the relevant amount. If we delivered the item to you in error, we have made an error describing the item or was damaged during the outbound postage, we will also pay the cost of return delivery. If you do return an item, please contact us first and let us know why, so that we can continually improve our service. These terms do not effect your statutory rights.
